Places, names and shifting borders
Historical Polish records can be spread across different archives and languages. A town name, parish, approximate birth year or passenger document may point us towards records worth checking. We will tell you what is available for your particular case and distinguish evidence from possible matches.
What you could tell us
- An ancestor’s Polish name, including variants
- A village or town, even with an uncertain spelling
- An approximate date, ship record or old family document
Even one detail may be useful. Please avoid sending sensitive information about living relatives in your first email.
What you receive
A focused PDF report that explains the evidence, references its sources and points out uncertainties. The starter study is usually 2–4 pages, not a promise of a complete family tree.

£149 starter study · Up to four hours on one agreed research question. We check feasibility and explain any exclusions before payment. Extra records or further work are discussed separately.
A common question
My Polish surname was changed after emigration. Can I still enquire?
Yes. Names were often spelled differently in different records. Include the versions you know; we will consider whether they provide a sensible starting point.
We welcome enquiries from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South America and elsewhere. Where you live does not limit your ability to ask.
